India's death toll rose past 100 on Monday, and total cases reached 4,000. The world's second most populous country had been under lockdown for about two weeks, and on Sunday, in response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's appeal to show solidarity in the fight against the virus, millions of Indians switched off their lights for nine minutes. The image of people holding candles and flashlights on their balconies and doorsteps echoes similar displays of unity around the world.
