In a significant development, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that Germany has substantially increased its annual visa quota for skilled Indian professionals from 20,000 to an impressive 90,000, marking a remarkable 3.5-fold increase.
The Prime Minister expressed immense optimism about this decision, highlighting how the expanded visa allocation would not only cater to Germany's growing need for skilled labor but also bolster the economic ties between the two nations. This move is poised to not only boost Germany's economic growth but also provide Indian professionals with a plethora of new job opportunities in the country.
PM Modi conveyed these encouraging sentiments while addressing attendees at the 18th Asia-Pacific Conference German Business 2024 in Delhi, a significant event following the recent visit of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to India. The two leaders engaged in fruitful discussions during one-on-one meetings at the Prime Minister's official residence in the national capital, with Scholz's three-day visit concluding on Saturday.
Furthermore, today marks the convening of the 7th Intergovernmental Consultation between India and Germany, a forum that will see both leaders co-chairing discussions on various crucial topics. The agenda includes talks on bolstering security and defense collaborations, facilitating talent mobility, and expanding economic cooperation to new horizons.
Reflecting on the enduring partnership between India and Germany, PM Modi remarked at the conference, "This year marks the 25th anniversary of the India-Germany strategic partnership. The upcoming 25 years hold the promise of elevating this partnership to unprecedented levels, with a comprehensive roadmap in place to transform India in the coming decades."
In other engagements, Chancellor Scholz is set to travel to Goa to welcome two German naval vessels, the frigate Baden-Württemberg and the support ship Frankfurt am Main, as part of Germany's Indo-Pacific deployment initiative. This visit signifies Scholz's third trip to India since assuming office in 2021, with his previous visit to New Delhi in September 2023 for the G20 Leaders' Summit.
The increased visa quota for skilled Indian professionals by Germany not only signals a positive step towards fostering stronger ties but also underlines the mutual commitment to shared prosperity and collaboration between these two dynamic nations.
