US Ambassador to India, Eric Garcetti, has characterized his time in India as nothing short of "extraordinary," expressing deep admiration for the nation that has truly captured his heart. In a recent gathering with select media representatives, he highlighted the immense potential in the relationship between India and the United States, describing it as filled with "endless possibilities."

As his term approaches its conclusion, Garcetti emphasized that serving as the US ambassador in India has been the most remarkable job of his life. "This was to be in the right place at the right time with the right relationship," he remarked, reflecting on the unique connection between the two nations.

He reiterated President Joe Biden's sentiment that India is "the most important country in the world" and stressed that engaging with India is essential for shaping the future. Garcetti stated, "No US president has ever said this," underscoring the significance of this relationship.

In discussing the broader implications of the India-US partnership, Garcetti noted, "The India-US relationship is the defining relationship." He emphasized the importance of fostering peace and maintaining sacred borders, advocating that "rules are the only way to keep peace."

Celebrating the resilience and aspirations of both countries, he acknowledged India's vital role on the global stage, whether in contributing to peace efforts in the Ukraine-Russia conflict or ensuring security in the Indian Ocean. "We love to see India's growth. It's a strong, proud India the modern world has never seen," he said.

Addressing the political climate in Canada, Garcetti remarked on the challenges faced by leaders in various regions, including Canada and East Asia, stating, "People want change and solutions overnight... India and the US are models of stability. Even if leaders change, values don't."

On the topic of Indian billionaire Gautam Adani, who faces allegations of corruption, Garcetti refrained from commenting directly, highlighting the independence of the criminal justice system. He expressed his appreciation for the strong partnerships with Indian industrialists and companies, noting significant investments in new factories and ports.

As for the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), Garcetti assured that progress continues. He emphasized the need for companies not controlled by state actors, aligning with perspectives shared by Gulf partners.

Discussing trade relations, Garcetti called for fair practices, acknowledging the existing trade deficit with India and advocating for reduced tariffs. "We need to reduce tariffs so that we can manufacture semiconductors, telecommunication equipment, and defense equipment together," he explained.

When asked about the potential invitation for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend President Trump’s upcoming swearing-in ceremony, Garcetti highlighted the close relationship between the two leaders. He expressed anticipation for future one-on-one conversations that will help define the next chapter of India-US relations.

In summary, Garcetti’s tenure has fostered a sense of optimism and commitment to strengthening ties between India and the US, paving the way for a promising future.
