India, China have strong economic, cultural connections says Chinese envoy

The Consul General of China in Mumbai Nothing, according to Kong Xianhua, could ever separate the Chinese and Indian people due to the inseparable cultural and economic ties between the two countries.

At Friday's Chinese New Year Reception and Cultural Festival in Mumbai, Kong was speaking to a crowd.

He predicted that China and India would reap bounties in 2023.

"It is the extensive cooperation between our people that makes it happen," remarked the CEO.

He stated that in 2023, the volume of commerce between China and India exceeded 136.2 billion dollars.

He stated that following the pandemic, there has been an unprecedented influx of Indian tourists to China, with over 1.8 lakh visas given in the past year by the Chinese Embassy and Consulates-General in India.

According to him, the Coastal Road's impending opening this month is one of the most significant pieces of news in Mumbai right now.

"It is worth noting that the tunnel under Malabar Hill (in south Mumbai), the hardest part of the project, was built with a Chinese tunnel boring machine by the efforts of both Chinese and Indian engineers," according to him.

More Indian businesses should consider the Chinese market, the world's second-largest, according to the ambassador, who also mentioned that they had hosted a promotional event for the China International Import Exhibition.

For the first time ever, we encouraged young people in India to study Chinese by hosting the Chinese Proficiency Competition in Mumbai. Based on what I've seen, I truly believe that our people are so interdependent culturally and economically that nothing can ever separate us," he remarked.

According to Kong, India had a banner year in 2023, what with its 7.3% GDP growth, stellar showing at the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, and the lunar landing of Chandrayaan-3.

Despite the challenges, he said, Chinese enterprises performed fairly well in 2023 and were active participants in social welfare projects.

Yapp India, a Chinese firm based in Pune, has upgraded the infrastructure of S.M.C No.1 High School in Solapur, the hometown of the heroic doctor Dwarakanath Shantaram Kotnis, who fought on the front lines of the Sino-Japanese War, according to the ambassador.

Kong was present for the project's opening in December of last year.

He spoke of how the children's resounding cheers conveyed their profound appreciation and the genuine camaraderie between the Chinese and Indian communities.

The fact that Sany, Haier, and many other Chinese enterprises participate in social welfare projects and help advance local society was something that Kong was happy to hear.
