India outpacing world in renewable energy adoption: US envoy Garcetti

While urging greater cooperation between Washington and New Delhi to triumph over climate change, US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti stated on Wednesday that India is leading the globe in the use of renewable energy.

During an occasion, Garcetti emphasized the need to use renewable energy sources to safeguard vulnerable populations and promote long-term economic growth.

India and the US are two of the world's most vital allies. Nothing has ever come close to the two largest democracies. According to Garcetti, "in a world of aligned democracies" the leaders' friendship has the most impact.

Together, the developed and developing worlds can combat climate change in a fair and equitable manner, and I believe that India and the US can make that happen."It's thrilling to see India leading the way in renewable energy today," he exclaimed.

In his opening remarks, the US ambassador discussed decarbonization pathways between the US and India.

Speaking about the importance of taking action today to combat climate change, he emphasized the pressing need to do so for the benefit of generations to come.

According to Garcetti, the US mission in India is aiming to foster sustainable development through "vibrant relationships" with state governments and local organizations.

"However, I wanted to convey today from Mission India that we are committed to pursuing this (green energy transformation) with the support of the appropriate central bank partners. Furthermore, he emphasized the importance of maintaining strong partnerships at the state and municipal levels, where a significant amount of energy is produced and distributed.

In his remarks, Garcetti—who was mayor of Los Angeles from 2013 to 2022—praised the city's successful campaign to diversify its energy sources away from fossil fuels and toward renewable energy sources including solar and hydropower, as well as battery storage.

In addition, he thinks back on a college course he took from Wallace Broecker, the guy who foretold the coming of global warming and who hoped that one day people would do something about it.

Reliable, affordable, and predictable deployment of clean energy is crucial for supporting sustainable economic growth and protecting vulnerable communities, according to the US ambassador here.
