India to Advocate for Global South Priorities at G7 Summit

India, as a leading economy and a prominent voice for the developing nations, is poised to utilize this global platform to amplify the perspectives and interests of the Global South. The country aims to ensure that the deliberations at the G7 Summit address the unique challenges and developmental needs of the wider global community, not just the concerns of the world's most advanced economies.

By advocating for the Global South's priorities, India intends to shape the summit's agenda and outcomes in a manner that reflects the diverse realities and aspirations of the international community. This strategic move aligns with India's long-standing commitment to championing the causes of the Global South and promoting a more inclusive and equitable global order.

India to spotlight the concerns of the Global South during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's participation at the G7 Summit in Italy.

Having recently concluded its G20 presidency, India continues to assert itself as a strong advocate for the Global South. Sources indicate that Modi will raise these issues during his interventions at the G7 Summit in Apulia, Italy.

During his fourth G7 Summit held in Hiroshima in 2023, PM Modi delivered remarks at three plenary sessions.

Italy took over the G7 presidency on January 1, 2024, marking its seventh term. The 50th G7 Summit is scheduled to take place from June 13 to 15 in Apulia, Italy. This event will convene leaders from the seven member states, along with the President of the European Council and the President of the European Commission, representing the European Union.

As with previous G7 Summits, Italy has extended invitations to several states and international organizations for the Outreach Session. This will be India's 11th participation and PM Modi's fifth involvement in the G7 Outreach Sessions.

India's engagement at the summit underscores its commitment to bringing the issues of the Global South to the global stage.
