India walked the talk when it comes to climate action: PM Modi

On Thursday, India's prime minister Narendra Modi urged wealthy nations to help poor nations cope with climate change by providing them with sufficient funds and transferring technology. In his remarks before his trip to Dubai for the World Climate Action Summit, Prime Minister Modi reaffirmed India's commitment to climate action and the priority it placed on the subject during its G20 chairmanship.

"Environmental protection was one of our top priorities while we were G20 president. Several specific measures to combat climate change and promote sustainable development are outlined in the New Delhi Leaders' Declaration. In his farewell address, Modi expressed his anticipation of the COP28 further solidifying the agreement on these matters. During Friday's United Nations 'Conference of the Parties' on climate, often known as COP28, Modi will attend the World Climate Action Summit. Several heads of state will be in attendance at the climate action summit to deliberate on strategies to lessen the impact of greenhouse gas emissions and fight climate change. At COP28, the high-level portion takes place at the World Climate Action Summit.

There are three other high-level side events in which the prime minister is expected to take part. The United Arab Emirates is hosting the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) from November 30 to December 12. With this year's COP28, the prime minister added, we can take stock of what we've accomplished so far under the Paris Agreement and plot a course for further climate action. "At the Voice of Global South Summit convened by India, the Global South spoke for the need for climate action based on the principles of equity, climate justice, and common but differentiated responsibilities, as well as a greater focus on adaptation," added Modi.

Adequate climate financing and technology transfer are crucial to bolstering the poor world's efforts. Sustainable growth can only be achieved if they have fair access to carbon and development space, he emphasized. India has taken action on climate change, as the prime minister pointed out. "Our achievements in different sectors like renewable energy, energy efficiency, afforestation, energy conservation, Mission LiFE are testament to the commitment of our people towards mother earth," according to him.

Special events, such as those addressing climate financing and the green credit initiative, are something the prime minister is excited to participate in, he said. "In keeping with our civilizational ethos, India has always laid emphasis on climate action even as we pursue social and economic development," stated Modi.
