Diversified conglomerate Reliance's ambitious submarine cable system for high-capacity and high-speed internetconnectivity from India (Mumbai) to Europeand Asia has received approval from the environment ministry's expert panel.
India-Europe-Xpress (IEX) and India-Asia-Xpress (IAX) - the world's largest submarine cable system - are expected to be ready between 2023 and 2024.
In a November 2 meeting, the Ministry of Environment, Forests & Climate Change's Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) for projects involving coastal zone regulations recommended the project for approval in view of its importance for network connectivity.
IEX in the Arabian sea and open seas will connect Mumbai to Europe, with landings in the Middle East and Africa (Oman, Djibouti, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt) as well as through the Mediterranean Sea with landings in France, Italy, and Greece further expanding to US Coast (East).

Reliance had moved the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority (MCZMA) in June 2021 for the IAX proposal but at that time CZMP 2019 maps were not published.
