Resolution to establish Aug 15 as National Day of Celebration of two largest democracies.

A group of US legislators have introduced a resolution in the House of Representatives, led by the Indian-American Congressman Shri Thanedar.

The resolution seeks to proclaim India's Independence Day as the National Day of Celebration for the world's two largest democracies, the United States and India.

The resolution highlights the strong partnership between the United States and India, which is based on shared democratic values, and expresses the belief that this partnership will continue to foster global democracy and peace, stability, and prosperity for all nations.

Thanedar introduced the resolution, which was co-sponsored by Congressman Buddy Carter and Brad Sharman.

The resolution proposes designating August 15, India's Independence Day, as "National Day of Celebration."

- Reinforce democratic principles

- Promote global democracy

- Celebrate shared values & diversity

During Prime Minister Narendra Modi's official state visit to the United States on June 22, the relationship between the two countries reached a new level of trust and mutual understanding based on shared interests and commitments to freedom, democracy, pluralism, the rule of law, and respect for human rights, according to the statement.

According to the resolution, Americans of Indian ancestry play important roles in public life in the United States as government officials, military personnel, and law enforcement officers who diligently uphold the principles of the US Constitution and enrich the nation's diversity.

It was stated that it is appropriate and desirable to celebrate with the Indian people and to reaffirm the democratic principles upon which both nations were founded.
