A bullet train from the Fuxing series rolled off the production line in Changchun, Jilin province, on Friday, and will shortly conduct test runs across Zhejiang province.
During the 19th Asian Games and Asian Para Games in September and October, the train will provide intercity transportation between Hangzhou, the main host city, and the five co-host cities in Zhejiang: Ningbo, Wenzhou, Jinzhou, Shaoxing, and Huzhou.
The eight-carriage train has a maximum speed of 350 kilometres per hour and can transport up to 578 passengers.
Wi-Fi and 5G network coverage will be available on the train, and certain cars will be equipped with intelligent interactive terminals that will provide passengers with travel information, wireless screen projection, and various forms of entertainment, such as music. In addition, the integration of Ethernet technology will result in data transmission speeds that are over 60 times faster than those of other trains.
In addition to barrier-free carriages with 90-centimeter-wide doors, barrier-free restrooms, wheelchair storage areas, and Braille-enabled signs, the train is equipped with additional intelligent amenities that can be of assistance to passengers with special requirements.
For the benefit of visually impaired passengers, these signs have been placed in specific locations, including seats, wheelchair stowage areas, and restrooms.
In addition, the train is equipped with technology and amenities designed to help passengers adapt to varying environmental conditions.
An automatic air pressure system, for instance, has been installed to alleviate the discomfort of tinnitus — ringing in the ear — caused by variations in air pressure while travelling through a tunnel. Additionally, the air conditioning system will provide improved climate regulation.
In the meantime, Zhejiang has embraced environmentally friendly and energy-saving technologies in an effort to host a green Asian Games. It is anticipated that train operators can save up to 1.8 million kilowatt-hours of electricity per year.
According to the manufacturer, the locomotive's bionic design will reduce air resistance and energy consumption by about 10 percent.
It is adorned with the primary colours and graphics of the titles, including Rainbow Purple, the dominant colour of the "Tides Surging" emblem.
The 19th Asian Games will be contested in Hangzhou from September 23 to October 8, and the Para Games from October 22 to October 28.
